The upcoming 4th year of the Tipsport Malta Cup international football tournament will take place from 16 to 25 January 2022. The Czech premier league team SK Sigma Olomouc, Slovak FC Spartak Trnava, acting winner of Tipsport Malta Cup 2021 WGS Tirol Wattens and Danish AAB Aalborg FC will all fly to the Mediterranean island for playing the tournament and training. All matches will take place at Malta's Ta 'Qali National Stadium.

The tournament will be played for the first time by teams from the four highest European league competitions. Another novelty will be the game system of the tournament: the organizers listened to the wishes of the participants and extended the winter camp for a few days so that the participating teams could play three tournament matches in addition to training. "This has not yet been possible due to the fact that in previous years the participating Czech teams did not like to play against each other and always preferred foreign rivals," explains the Head of Communication of the organizing Tipsport, Václav Sochor.
Exemplary cooperation and trust
The Tipsport Malta Cup enjoys generous support of the Maltese partners, which through it wants to present itself as an ideal winter destination for the preparation of sports teams and especially football. "Malta lives by football. Although we are about the size of a medium-sized European city, we still play four league competitions in our country,” says Carlo Micallef, Head of Marketing, Malta Tourism Authority.
"The tournament is organized and funded mostly by Tipsport, but we can only do so thanks to the great support and assistance we receive from Malta. The Malta Tourism Authority and the MFA SportsPlus agency are great and reliable partners for us, with whose help we can develop the Tipsport Malta Cup,” confirms Lubomír Ježek, Head of Media and Trade at Tipsport.
Pan-European level
"The tournament has really moved to the international level, and top clubs from other European countries have started to notice it. The teams’ interest in winter trainings in quality conditions and subtropical climate is limited only by the different breaks between the autumn and spring parts of the league in each country," Carlo Micaleff adds.
Tipsport Malta Cup is traditionally met with great media interest, especially from the sports media. In addition to the Czech and Slovak ones, a number of journalists from Austria and Denmark will now cover the January tournament.
This edition of the tournament will also take place under the strict covid measures valid in Malta. Malta is one of the countries with the lowest covid-19 incidence worldwide.
