The legendary Slovak club FC Spartak Trnava will once again defend Slovak colors at the international football tournament Tipsport Malta Cup 2022.
While Trnava didn´t do very well at the tournament last year (4th place), next year should be something different. The club, thanks to its general partner Tipsport has got steadier.
The players have become familiar to working under coach Gašparík and a precious addition
Martin Škrtel has also joined the team.

Will there be a new Trnava?
Existential problems, a new head coach, an incomplete team and the fifth place in the regular
season of the Slovak first division, was also the part of reality which Spartak team had brought to Malta in the beginning of 2021.
No one could tell what the rest of the season would look like. The players quickly adapted to a different approach under coach Gašparík. The fine-tuned training in the Mediterranean climate had brought a momentum that futball players built on for the overall
triumph of the Winter Tipsport League.
By the end of the year, Spartak had moved to a fourth place in the table and played the qualification of the UEFA Europa Conference League in the end.
“At the beginning of this year, new coaching staff members were added to our team. The goal was to glue team together and make performances more stable so that we would have more winning results. In the end we managed to end up on the fourth place which guaranteed us to play in the UEFA Europa Conference League. This season we are currently second, and our goal is the same as previous to challenge for the European Cups. The team remained together and most of the players who were at the Tipsport Malta Cup will also be there this year. We´re looking forward to excellent conditions and outstanding matches,“ said the coach of FC Spartak Trnava Michal Gašparík.
The big step forward was the input of Martin Škrtel. The former captain of the Slovak
national football team brought to the club and the whole league a greater
attraction. This progress has of course been spotted by Tipsport which has also
contributed to the agreement with the club on the general partnership. Martin Škrtel on the other hand has earned himself a sponsorship as well and he is one of the main faces of Tipsport.
“I ’m glad it worked out this way. I came to a well-run team after a long injury. By joining the team, the system of the game hasn't changed much. We're building a solid defense and it fits me, we're conceding very few goals. I like working with all my teammates on the field, “ said FC Spartak ’s stopper Martin Škrtel.

Step by step
FC Spartak Trnava currently ocupies the second place in the Slovak first division, with a six-point gap on Slovan.
“We ´ll try to win the remaining autumn matches. We're lucky to be in the top six, there'll be a fight for standings throughtout the whole season. Our goal is to break off the attacks of Ružomberok and other teams and to be as close as possible to Slovan,“ said Skrtel´s teammate Filip Twardzik, for the FC Spartak Trnava´s website.
In addition to the league competition, the road to UEFA Europa Conference League also leads through the Slovnaft Cup. If the Gašparík´s players succeed against Košice, they'll have a pretty good chance of getting a second-league opponent in the following quarter finals. For a club from a little Rome, a semifinal or even a cup final might not be unrealistic. With the quality of the team, the background and with a leader like Martin Škrtel, the club has got a chance to fight for the top rankings.
“The participation in the Tipsport Malta Cup we´re viewing as an appropriate opportunity to prepare for the spring matches. We will have three games with high-quality competitors, and I believe we will be ready for the battles within the top six and the cup,“ FC Spartak ’s stopper Martin Škrtel has closed.
